kateordie: I’ve never understood why being an ‘ally’ is seen as a bad thing. Wouldn’t you rather have an ally than an enemy? I’d rather have a friend that has ‘nothing against’ my lifestyle than a friend who calls me a dyke. Everybody’s got problems, man, and nobody’s politically correct all the time. I have friends who aren’t even okay with gay people. Sure, it rubs me the wrong way sometimes, but I don’t let it keep me up at night. We can still have conversations and hang out and go to the same parties… Just as long as they’re not in gay bars, I guess! I just… hmm. I’m trying to say this in the least wrath-incurring way possible. As a super-de-duper queer person, I’m down with having allies. You don’t have to throw a party for my sexuality. You don’t even have to acknowledge it. Just don’t be a dick to me and we’ll probably get along. Being mean to people just because they aren’t prejudiced against in the same way you are seems counterproductive. I love being an ally, mostly because I have no reason to oppose or wish ill on people because of who they decide to love. Honestly the only times I don’t like telling people I’m an ally is when they tell me it’s a sad thing that I’m not a lesbian. That bothers me, but other than that, emotional happiness for all!
